OAKPARK native, Timothy V Murphy, last night appeared alongside Vince Vaughn, in the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere of ‘True Detective’.

In the critically-acclaimed series, Tim plays a Russian gangster who orchestrates a shady deal with Vince Vaughn’s character in episode 1.

The former ‘Sons of Anarchy’ actor, will appear in six out of the eight episodes of the HBO series, which can be seen on these shores on Monday nights at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.

‘True Detective’, has won multiple awards for its brilliant first series which starred Matthew McConnaughy and Woody Harrelson.

Speaking to Traleetoday.ie back in April, Timothy was tight-lipped about his role in True Detective.

“I’ve never worked on such a secretive project. You get your scenes a couple of days before shooting and you have to hand the scripts back as soon as you shoot them,” he said.

Since he left Ireland for Hollywood many years ago, he has appeared in some of the biggest TV series of the past 15 years including 24, Six Feet Under, Shameless (US), Alias, CSI: NY and many more.

  • ‘The Bastard Executioner’: Timothy V. Murphy On Being Gaalan O’Shay To Father Ruskin

Best known for his role as Gaalan O’Shay in the FX biker drama series “Sons of Anarchy,” Timothy V. Murphy is joining showrunner Kurt Sutter in the new medieval series, “The Bastard Executioner,” as Father Ruskin. Currently in UK for “The Bastard Executioner” production, the actor is filming alongside "SOA" co-star Katey Sagal (Gemma Teller), who plays the prescient and beautiful Annora of the Alders.

Famous for bad guy roles, Murphy revealed that he loves playing the anti-hero. According to him, he doesn’t consider his characters bad; rather, they're people who consider themselves “smarter than the guys that they are dealing with.” So whenever he is in character, he reportedly always thinks that he is better than the other actors for him to play the role very well.

“I love playing Gaalan,” Murphy told Lena Lamoray back in November last year. “It’s such a great gang there on the set of 'Sons of Anarchy.' I love going to work on those days where I’m working with all the guys.”

The actor also admitted that he worked as a bouncer in Dublin and worked in construction for a number of years, so the aggression that he embodies when he played Gaalan is part of him being Irish and the combination of his experience from his previous jobs.

Now filming in Wales and England for #TBX pilot episode, the “Lone Ranger” star is set to play Father RusKin, a former soldier who left the military for the seminary. Described as brawny yet a gentle man, Ruskin is not just a priest but also a rector and the teacher of the court.

Set in 14th century, “The Bastard Executioner” tells the story of a warrior knight during King Edward II’s reign who vowed not use his sword again. “Broken by the ravages of war,” the bastard lay down his sword and lived a simple agrarian life, but the life of violence found him again and he was forced to pick the bloodiest sword of all.

The new series started shooting in Wales on March 19 with executive producer Paris Barclay as the lead director. Other stars in the show include “True Blood” star Stephen Moyer, “Penny Dreadful” actor Danny Sapani and “The American” star Matthew Rhys for a guest-starring role.

  • TIM MURPHY

HAILS FROM: Tralee, Co. Kerry. BIG BREAK: Last year Murphy was voted Best Villain In American Television for his work on crime drama Sons Of Anarchy.

Now Tim is playing Russian gangster Osip Agronov in new HBO series True Detective, which also stars Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. For someone who only decided to train as an actor when he was 29, the 54year-old has been on a most extraordinary ride in Hollywood. He emigrated from Kerrry to the US in the Eighties and worked on building sites before being cast in an advert for beer when he was spotted in Miami.

Ten years ago he landed a part in a television ad for a cable company, Direct TV, where he played an over-the-top Russian mogul with all the bling, girlfriends and even a miniature giraffe. ‘That ad gave me a lot of notoriety and really changed everything for me,’ he admits. ‘Adam Sandler’s company called about doing a movie with me playing the same Russian mogul. I started getting all these calls I wasn’t getting before.’ BEST QUOTE: ‘It is so difficult to make a living as an actor in this day and age, so if they want to typecast me as a baddie, that’s fine with me.’ BEST KNOWN FOR: Murphy played Conor Sheehy in Glenroe for three years in the mid-Nineties, with his character having affairs with both Biddy and Fidelma. INTERESTING FACT: He had a stammer as a child and has previously said he ‘couldn’t really talk until I was 16 or 17’. PERSONAL LIFE: Murphy is contemplating marriage and children for the first time with his Boston-Irish actress girlfriend Caitlin Manley. PREVIOUS HITS: He stars in the video for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ song, If I Had a Gun. VIEWERS: The True Detective finale recently drew 3.5million viewers. The opening episode of Sons Of Anarchy’s seventh series drew 6.2million viewers. UPCOMING: Later this year he appears in Netflix comedy Grace and Frankie — playing Jane Fonda’s love interest.
